Passenger suffers heart attack, flight lands in Chennai
Chennai | Sunday, Jun 7 2009 IST
A London-bound British Airways flight from Singapore, made an emergency landing at the Chennai International Airport here early today, to provide treatment to an elderly Swedish National, who suffered a severe heart attack. Airport sources said John Nes (89), who suffered a heart attack, was off loaded from the flight along with his wife Leza Johan Nes (78), given emergency visas, and admitted to a private hospital.
His condition was stated to be critical.
The flight, with 186 passengers, took off for London from Singapore Airport at 2300 hrs Indian time last night.
Around 0200 hrs, John Nez complained of chest pain and his wife informed the flight crew.
As his condition started worsening, despite administration of first aid, the pilot was informed. The cabin-crew found that they were flying over the Indian air space at Chennai and contacted the Air Traffic Control(ATC) authorities in New Delhi, who gave special permission for emergency landing on humanitarian grounds.
As the flight touched down at the Chennai International Airport at 0230 hrs, a medical team along with doctors, examined him and found that Mr John Nes had suffered a massive heart attack.
As the doctors advised immediate hospitalisaton, the couple were offloaded from the flight, given special visas by the Immigration authorities, and rushed to a private hospital.
The flight later took off for London at 0400 hrs with the balance of 184 passengers.
Congrats to British Airways!
One my friend”s Aunty was travelling from US to India with her husband. She got heart attack in between…so pilot decided to land the flight in Ireland for the immediate treatement. So she was saved. Thanks to that Pilot. Pilots are really great.
